Cloud Strategy: Tech Giants Expedite Hybrid Cloud Approach
This week HPE and SAP announced their partnership, which aims to help SAP customers store software and data on-premises by leveraging the cloud services of HPE GreenLake. And Oracle announced the general availability of Oracle Cloud VMware Solution that will enable customers to migrate VMware workloads to Oracle Cloud infrastructure for better performance and security.
HPE and SAP Collaborate to Deliver SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud With HPE GreenLake
The incurring costs of maintaining on-premises infrastructure and the loss of visibility and data protection in cloud migration have led enterprises to roll out consumption-based IT models where customers can reap the benefits of public cloud within their on-premises data centers. According to Gartner, 75% of midsize and large organizations will adopt a hybrid IT strategy by 2021.
The move to hybrid cloud proves profitable for businesses, especially small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that benefit from the boosted time to market, risk mitigation, and business growth. The ability to manage security, agility and flexibility, as well as better end customer experience are some of the top drivers of an increased hybrid cloud usage among companies.
As the hybrid cloud model gains momentum, companies will continue to expedite their strategy to deliver a robust and successful cloud approach to their customers.
This week, SAP launched the customer edition of its private cloud solution, SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. The fully managed service will enable customers to store their SAP software landscape in their own data centers. The customer edition includes reference architecture, comprehensive end-to-end service-level agreement (SLA), and innovative pre-built tools for rapid deployment, with full governance and security managed by SAP.
While industry heavyweights like IBM, Oracle, and AWS have a promising IaaS business to support their cloud initiatives, SAP had to ink a partnership for its new offering. To deliver the customer edition of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, SAP has partnered with HPE which will offer end-to-end infrastructure support with HPE GreenLake to SAP customers.
After the partnership, HPE will supply, install, and manage customer infrastructure, while SAP will deliver on-premise white-glove operations and application management services.
Peter Pluim, EVP, Global Head of Enterprise Cloud Services, at SAP, says, “The new deployment model SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, customer edition is a direct response to customers who want the flexibility and service level of a managed private cloud, but need to keep their systems in their own data centers, such as public sector and regulated industry customers.”
Oracle Cloud VMware Solutions Is Now Available Globally
Last month, Oracle made a slew of cloud announcements, making a move to become a top-tier cloud infrastructure provider. The company is on a mission to deliver a complete cloud experience to customer’s on-premises data center or colocation facility. There are several public cloud vendors, such as AWS, Microsoft, Google, Infor that offer a hybrid cloud approach, and no other SaaS vendor offers a complete on-premises cloud offering. This week, Oracle announced the general availability of Oracle Cloud VMware Solution to all global regions and in customer Dedicated Region cloud instances.
The new solution is a customer-managed service that enables customers to migrate their production VMware workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Based on VMware Cloud Foundation, customers have complete access and control over VMware vSphere, security tools, automation services, and all of Oracle’s cloud services. Basically, customers have administrative control over their VMware environment within their data centers. They can use key services, such as VMware Host Client for ESXi management, which currently are not available on other public clouds. Moreover, Oracle Cloud VMware Solution also supports multiple VMware versions in the same Oracle Cloud tenancy to support real application lifecycle management.
Mark Lohmeyer, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Services Business Unit, VMware, shares, “Through consistent VMware infrastructure and operations, Oracle Cloud VMware Solution enables our mutual customers to migrate and modernize enterprise applications, and seamlessly move workloads between on-premises environments and Oracle Cloud, all with access to Oracle’s full portfolio of cloud services.”
In other news, VMware also launched VMware Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub and VMware Horizon 8 (virtual desktop infrastructure) capabilities to help organizations bring employees back to the office safely. The Workspace ONE platform comprises privacy-centric mobile applications – VMware Workspace ONE Proximity and VMware Workspace ONE Campus, which will support the needs of the modern workforce. At the same time, the new Horizon 8 solution will help IT teams to manage and scale secure virtual desktop and application deployment from a single control plane across different clouds.
